Corfu - the relaxed alternative for your next trip to Greece

Manuel and I were travelling to the Ionian Island 2 years ago and we totally fell in love with it.

Corfu is a popular island (population of around 100,000) of the Ionian Sea, known for its attractive secluded beaches with greenish-turquoise waters, that every traveler loves. Even though the island does not feature a gay scene like Mykonos or Athens, the acceptance on the island is at pretty high levels.

Like most places in Greece, Corfu’s history stretches back to classical antiquity with the kingdom of Korkyra being one of the great naval powers of the 5th BC. Since then, the island has been occupied by the Venetians and the British and lays claim to being the only place in Greece where cricket is popular.

Today, Corfu is well-known as a tourist destination with many visitors from Northern Europe coming to the island on package holidays. Away from the beaches and swimming pools, Corfu offers stunning architecture, spectacular scenery, delicious food and a warm welcome.

Our favorite spots at Corfu:

- Achilleon - an impressive summer palace built by the Empress of Austria Elisabeth of Bavaria. Its construction was inspired by the legend of Achilles.

-Wave beach bar - great relaxed beach bar, stunning beach and fair prices

-Mirtiotissa Beach - crystal-clear water, open relaxed atmosphere, nudist beach

-Corfu old town - vibrant city with a lot of shops, delicious restaurants and bars

-Yaliskari beach bar - another amazing relaxed beach bar near a stunning beach

Conclusion:

If you are searching for a relaxed, open-minded & stunning Island, Corfu is definitely the right place for your next Greece trip.
